A Closer Look at the Rasmussen University – Romeoville/Joliet Campus

New to Rasmussen University? Or are you just curious about what makes the Rasmussen University – Romeoville campus unique? You’ve come to the right place! We spoke with the Romeoville/Joliet campus director Diane Nowaczyk to learn more about the campus and the community.
What is the history of Rasmussen University and the Romeoville/Joliet campus?
Rasmussen University is a regionally accredited private college and has been dedicated to changing lives and the communities it serves through its career-focused and flexible educational programs since 1900. The University is committed to academic innovation and providing the highest standard of education while empowering students to pursue a college degree. The University offers Certificate and Diploma programs through Associate’s, Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programs online and across its 23 campuses.
“Not many people say that they truly love their jobs, but I am fortunate enough to be one of those people. For more than four years, I have been able to be a part of the University’s mission, which is really exciting to me,” Nowaczyk says.
The Romeoville/Joliet campus has been a standout member of the community for nearly 10 years. It even was named the Rasmussen University Campus of Distinction in 2018. “The staff and faculty are exceptional. They constantly put in the extra effort for the students and the campus. They all go above and beyond,” said Nowaczyk. The Romeoville/Joliet campus is one of four campuses the University operates in Illinois.
Where is the Romeoville/Joliet campus located?
The campus is conveniently located southwest of Chicago at the intersection of Interstate 55 and Weber Road and has free parking available for students, faculty, staff and visitors on site.
“As a free-standing campus we designed and built, it is tailored for our students and their needs,” Nowaczyk said.
What programs are offered at the Romeoville/Joliet campus?
The Romeoville/Joliet campus offers the following on-campus programs in the Schools of Health Sciences and Nursing:
School of Health Sciences
- Medical Assisting Diploma: The Medical Assisting Diploma program at the Romeoville/Joliet campus in Illinois is accredited by the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES).1
- Surgical Technologist Associate’s: The Surgical Technologist AAS program at the Romeoville/Joliet campus is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) on the recommendation of the Accreditation Review Council on Education in Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (ARC/STSA).2
School of Nursing
- Professional Nursing (ADN)
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN): The Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree program at Rasmussen University is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).3
Students may also enroll in any of Rasmussen University’s more than 30 online programs through the Romeoville/Joliet campus and have access to on-campus and 24/7 online support. Programs are taught by qualified faculty members across seven schools of study including Business, Design, Education, Health Sciences, Justice Studies, Nursing and Technology.
What resources and support services are offered at the Romeoville/Joliet campus?
Students have access to quiet areas for individual studying as well as areas for team studying and collaboration. With three advisors on campus, support services are plenty. Knowledgeable staff are available to help answer questions and guide you on your educational journey. They can even help you with course scheduling, financial aid and learning support.
“The campus is always buzzing. With many residential students, we have a ‘work hard, play hard’ mentality. It isn’t uncommon to see lots of snacks, impromptu games of kickball in the parking lot and many smiles and laughs,” says Nowaczyk.
In addition to on-campus, in-person resources, students also have real-time access to everything they need, from academics to financial aid. The online Student Portal is the gateway to a variety of self-service tools, from course materials, grades, account balance, financial aid and library resources to career help and even 24/7 tech help.

“Students make themselves at home on our campus. Whether it is grabbing a taco with their classmates on Taco Tuesday, making another pot of coffee in the student lounge or kicking back in a massage chair after finals, we really are a close-knit community,” said Nowaczyk.
How is the Romeoville/Joliet campus involved in the local community?
Rasmussen University is dedicated to providing education and outreach services that extend beyond its student population to make the surrounding communities a better place to live, grow and learn. Partners such as Advocate Health Care, AMITA Health, DuPage Medical Group, Rush Medical and Edward-Elmhurst Health have been vital for students and faculty. Since Romeoville graduates often stay in and around the community after graduation, making the connections with key employers while in school has proved a valuable experience.
With a large nursing population, the campus also boasts a strong and award-winning Student Nurse Association (SNA,) a nursing club dedicated to volunteering in the community and professional development.
