What is the history of Rasmussen University and the Rockford campus?
Rasmussen University is a regionally accredited private college and has been dedicated to changing lives and the communities it serves through its career-focused and flexible educational programs since 1900. The University is committed to academic innovation and providing a high standard of education while empowering students to pursue a college degree. The University offers Certificate and Diploma programs as well as degree programs at the Associate’s, Bachelor’s and Master’s level online and across 23 campuses nationwide.
The Rockford campus opened in 2006 and has been a growing and supportive community of learners ever since. The campus is one of four the University operates in Illinois.
“I have been with the University for over ten years,” said Steege. “I believe in the mission of what we do. The services we offer to our students and the communities we serve have always been rooted in our mission.”
Where is the Rockford campus located?
Rockford is a growing community with a keen focus on workforce development. Located in the hills of Northern Illinois, Rockford is a small-town community with all the amenities of a big city. The campus, which is located in a large commercial development along East State Street, is a stone’s throw away from a variety of food options—including Portillo’s Hot Dogs, a favorite hangout for students and staff. There is ample free parking available for students, faculty, staff and visitors with two parking lots on site.
What programs are offered at the Rockford campus?
Students at the Rockford campus have plenty of academic options available. The Rockford campus offers the following on-campus programs in the schools of Health Sciences and Nursing:

- Surgical Technologist: The Surgical Technologist AAS Program at the Rockford, Illinois, campus is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP.org) on the recommendation of the Accreditation Review Council on Education in Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (ARC/STSA).1
School of Nursing
- Professional Nursing (ADN)
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing(BSN): The Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree program at Rasmussen University is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.2
Students may also enroll in any of the University’s more than 30 online programs while still having access to on-campus support. Programs are taught by qualified faculty across seven schools of study including Business, Design, Education, Health Sciences, Justice Studies, Nursing and Technology.

Rasmussen University was recognized among a select group of early childhood education (ECE) institutions for meeting superior industry standards and gaining approval as an Entitled Institution through the Gateways to Opportunity Credentials. As an Entitled Institution, ECE students at Rasmussen University in Illinois can now qualify for state-recognized credentials more efficiently.
What resources and support services are offered at the Rockford campus?
Students at the Rockford campus can rest assured they’ll have what they’ll need to succeed. To encourage collaboration and innovation, students have access to a learning commons, student lounge and computer labs on campus. In addition, advisors are available to help answer specific questions and guide you on your educational journey.
