Ever wonder what it would feel like to have your novels on the shelf at the local bookstore? Local Ocala author C. Kevin Thompson visited the Rasmussen College Ocala, Fla. campus to inspire students.
Thompson shared his passion and enthusiasm for believing in one’s dreams and stressed the importance of “staying the course” to see your goals come into fruition. After decades of writing, he is now seeing his novels in print and has a series in the works for his publisher. Thompson’s second published novel 30 Days Hath Revenge is now being considered for a TV series based on the characters he created in the first part of a six-part thriller/sci-fi series that has received rave reviews in the publishing world.
His debut novel The Serpent’s Grasp was nominated this month as a finalist for the 2013 Selah Award in the Blue Ridge Mountain Christian Writer’s Conference. Thompson shared how he gets inspiration for his novels from every day experiences, why it’s important to keep believing in your dreams, and what is involved in the business part of writing for a publisher. There different classes listened as Thompson discussed the importance of understanding the subjects that he researches (legalities and criminal laws), the business part of publishing, and how he learned to hone his craft at writer’s conferences for those budding Rasmussen authors in the audience.
Thompson’s story was inspirational and informative, and the college hopes to have him back in the future so more students can share in his writing adventures as he continues to pursue his dreams of taking his novels to the big screen, and inspires all of us with his love of writing and words.
